WBCA Hall of Fame throws a housewarming party
WISCONSIN DELLS Dave Royston was not the only one who thought it was high time the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame had a physical home of its own.
But Royston was the one who had just the place to bring the idea to life: his JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
The shrine for fans of high school basketball is just what Royston wholesale nfl jerseys envisioned when he opened JustAGame in January 2006 as a venue for basketball and volleyball leagues and tournaments.
“Now,” Royston said, “high school basketball has a home. today with a game between current professionals who played high school ball in Wisconsin and an all star team from Milwaukee’s elite Closed Gym League.
Notable players expected to be on hand include former Wisconsin Heights and University of Wisconsin forward Mike Wilkinson.
Several NBA players expressed interest, but the NBA prohibits participation in such games. Saturday. First up will be a game between teams made up of women who competed in past WBCA all star games.
Then, after an appearance by Milwaukee Bucks mascot “Bango” and the Bucks Rim Rockers, a game between men’s all star teams will take place.
Players expected for the men’s game include Tim Jarmusz (Oshkosh West), Roy Boone (Madison East) and Brett Valentyn (Verona), each of whom went on to play at the University of Wisconsin.
Festivities will conclude with a dedication ceremony Saturday night, with Bucks television announcer Jim Paschke serving as master of ceremonies.
Some of the Hall of Fame features on display:
A “history wall” featuring some of the most impactful players, teams and stories in Wisconsin high school basketball history.
Team pennants representing each state champion team.
Jerseys representing approximately 250 high school programs, with the goal of eventually having a jersey for every team in the state.
Displays representing the approximately 500 members of the Hall of Fame; state career coaching and scoring leaders; each player who scored 1,000 or more points; each coach with 300 or more career victories; each Mr. and Miss Basketball honoree; and current WIAA state champions, coaches of the year and players of the year.
A display commemorating the WBCA’s involvement with the Midwest Athletes against Childhood Cancer Fund. The group has donated about $2 million to the MACC Fund over the years.
